Naomi Higgins (any pronouns) is a Toronto-based saxophone and woodwind player, arranger, and private teacher. She plays the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, as well as flute and clarinet. Their teachers include John Johnson, Mike Murley, Camille Watts, and Kelly Jefferson.
Naomi graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance in 2017. While at U of T, they played lead alto in the U of T Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Gordon Foote, and were a member of small ensembles led by musicians like Jason Logue, Gary Williamson, Phil Albert, Don Englert, and John MacLeod. Naomi has performed with SHOUT! the band, Supersonic Hearts Band, Chelsea McBride's Socialist Night School, and The Human Rights, among many others. She plays for weddings, cocktail parties, shows, musicals, festivals, and more!
A proficient doubler, Naomi has had extensive experience playing in theatre pit orchestras for shows such as The Drowsy Chaperone, The Music Man, Annie, Oklahoma and Fiddler on the Roof. She has traveled all over Ontario performing other shows such as Dean and Jerry - What Might've Been. They have performed at numerous GTA venues including The Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, The Seven44 Club, The Central, Lula Lounge, Gallery 345, Club 120, The Scarborough Civic Centre, and the Beaches International Jazz Festival. Naomi has played across the country, touring out west with the Socialist Night School, and has played in massive venues such as The Montreal Bell Centre in Quebec.
Naomi spent much of 2017-2019 playing music on P&O Cruises' cruise ships. She has traveled around the globe working with top-caliber musicians from all over the world.
Such a wide variety of playing experience has turned Naomi into a versatile musician. They'll play anything that's asked of them, with enthusiasm to boot!
Naomi teaches one-on-one music lessons online and in-person from her studio in Toronto. They teach students of all ages on saxophone, flute, clarinet, ukulele, and piano. By adjusting their approach to suit the needs of each of their students, Naomi strives to share her love of music in a fun and engaging way.
